THE SHOW

Open Mikers is a look into another world—a world filled with the cringe worthy and idiosyncratic. A world of music, of spoken word, of art. Of struggling unknowns and their unique, untold stories. A constellation of broken people connected by a busted microphone in a dingy coffeeshop and the situations that will push them to their limits, situations both hilarious and heartwarming. These dramas, played out against a colorful backdrop of original music, spoken word and comedy will ultimately draw these people together into unlikely bonds of friendship and family as they overcome their delusions and embrace who they really are.

THE PLOT

The show opens with a young artist, Cliff, who dropped out of college to pursue his dreams of rock and roll superstardom but instead finds himself stuck in a netherworld of mediocrity--Open Mic night at a dumpy LA coffeehouse called The Can.

The Can is owned by Riley Garbo, an orphaned young woman who’s a little too inexperienced to be running the shop her estranged biological mother left to her. The Can is populated by a host of regulars, each complicated and unique in his own way. To help her sanity, Riley has started dating Mike, a music industry wunderkind who recently quit the business for reasons he’s not comfortable disclosing. But all that changes after Mike hears Cliff perform...

When he's approached by Mike, who is overbearing and pushy, Cliff has to decide whether to give up on his dreams for good, or get in bed with a potentially untrustworthy business partner.

Ultimately, Cliff will put aside his differences with Mike in hopes of achieving success in the high-pressure music industry, while simultaneously struggling to escape the Can and its humble family of odd yet lovable Open Mikers.

VIRTUAL REALITY

"Open Mikers" gives the audiences an experience that can't be found anywhere else. Imagine being able to sit inside an open mic and watch a performance right in front of your eyes. If you so choose, you can listen in on an intense conversation between Cliff and Mike, or instead choose to hone in on any one of the quirky Open Mikers floating around the coffeehouse. The choice is yours. Unlike any show (EVER!), viewers can watch episodes multiple times and still have different experiences simply through their choices of where to engage. The artful juxtaposition between cutting-edge technology and the seemingly ordinary setting of a low-fi coffeehouse make this show something truly special.
